(ELMA, WA) –Thanks to the generous nature of several Summit Pacific Medical Center employees, five local area high school seniors have been awarded $5,000 in scholarships. Summit Pacific Medical Foundation oversees two scholarship funds, the Employee Scholarship Fund and the Mitch Cohen Memorial Scholarship fund. Since the scholarship program was established in 1993, local area seniors have been awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships.
The Employee Scholarship Fund is a long-standing tradition of the hospital district. The fund assists local students in obtaining further education in healthcare fields. This fund is strictly supported by donations from Summit Pacific employees. This year, the Employee Scholarship Committee granted four $1,000 scholarships.
“This year was especially tough because we had such a highly motivated group of applicants, I wish we could have chosen them all. These students have gone above and beyond. I can’t wait for them to follow their passions,” said Joy Iversen, Diagnostic Imaging Manager and Scholarship Committee Chair.
The Mitch Cohen Memorial Scholarship Fund is supported from money raised by Dr. Shawn Andrews and volunteer staff. The scholarship is awarded in honor of the late Dr. Cohen’s generosity, and love for this community. This year, the Mitch Cohen Memorial Scholarship Committee granted two $500 scholarships.
Scholarships are awarded each spring to graduating seniors. For more information or to download the scholarship applications, visit the Summit Pacific website at www.summitpacificmedicalcenter.org.
