Is Naturopathy Right For Me?

Thank you for considering Summit Pacific Medical Center as your healthcare system.  At Summit we are happy to offer our patients a breath of primary care provider options.  You may choose one of our Family Medicine Physicians, a Nurse Practitioner, a Certified Physician Assistant, or a Naturopathic Physician. A Naturopathic Physician is a doctor that is trained in family medicine using both traditional and alternative medical practices to provide a healthy, holistic, and effective way to treat medical conditions. Naturopathic Physicians serve as primary care physicians as well as consultants for other providers looking for alternative or supplemental therapies for their patients.

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a distinct type of primary care medicine that blends age-old healing traditions with scientific advances and current research. It is guided by a unique set of principles that recognize the body’s innate healing capacity, emphasize disease prevention and encourage individual responsibility to obtain optimal health.

Can a Naturopathic Physician be my Primary Care Provider?

Yes. Naturopathic Physicians (NDs) serve as primary care providers just like Medical Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, etc. They can take care of all your health needs including consulting with other providers and specialists when needed.

Can I see my Primary Care Provider AND a Naturopathic Physician?

Yes. In addition to providing traditional primary care, NDs can also work in partnership with other primary care providers who are looking for alternative or supplemental therapies for their patients.

What are some services offered by a Naturopathic Physician?

NDs are trained to utilize a breadth of therapeutic options including nutritional therapy, manual manipulation, prescription medications and other naturopathic modalities. Not only do NDs provide basic health screenings like annual physicals and treat simple conditions such as cold and flu, they can also address chronic ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic pain, irritable bowel disease, obesity and others. The treatment of chronic pain does not include narcotics.

Will my insurance cover my visit?

Most private insurances will cover your visit just like any other primary care visit. However, we always recommend that patients contact their insurance provider and confirm the details of their individual policy. If you are on Medicare, please contact us about setting up a self-pay plan for your visit.
