What is the DAISY Award?
The DAISY Foundation was created in 1999 by the family of Patrick Barnes, who passed away at just 33 years old due to complications from the autoimmune disease ITP. Like many families facing such a heartbreaking loss, the Barnes family wanted to honor Patrick’s memory in a meaningful way.
A Way to Say “Thank You!”
While the Barnes family deeply appreciated the clinical expertise of Patrick’s nurses, it was their compassion, kindness, and support that truly left a lasting impact. They wanted to find a way to say thank you to nurses everywhere for the exceptional care they provide every day.
Gratitude on a Global Scale
From this desire, The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was born. What started as one family’s gesture of gratitude has grown into a global recognition program embraced by thousands of healthcare organizations.
At Summit Pacific Medical Center, we are honored to partner with DAISY because we know firsthand the incredible dedication of our nurses.

Do you or a family member have an example of a nurse that showed skill and compassion during your visit to Summit Pacific Medical Center? You can show your gratitude by nominating them for the quarterly DAISY Award.
Nominate your Nurse by sharing your story or by filling out a nomination form and submitting it to one of the DAISY Award kiosks at one of our entrances.
