December 3, 2024
The Holidays are full of good food and fellowship. Although having a goal of losing weight in December may be impractical for most of us, we still can avoid the need for a New Year’s resolution of losing the holiday pounds in January by following these recommendations.
1. Don’t skip the vegetables in the buffet line.
Vegetables tend to be lower in calories and their high fiber count makes you feel full, so you’ll want to eat less.
2. Watch adding additional fats to your veggies and other foods
It’s great that you grabbed some carrot sticks and raw broccoli from the buffet, but you can unfortunately counter their benefit by covering them with ranch or other high-calorie dressings. In addition, minimize the amount of butter and cream you use.
3. Take a walk or participate in other physical activities with your friends and family
Proactively burn the additional calories you will be consuming from pumpkin pie or county ham by going on a morning or after meal walk. A family touch football game is another way to have fun and stay fit.
One of the easiest ways for people to gain weight is through high fat and sugary drinks. For instance, depending on the manufacturer, there are between 200 – 300 calories in just a cup of eggnog. Having a fiesta and an 8-ounce margarita, you are looking at between 250 to over 500 calories. Water is always your best option.
5. Read the labels
Even foods that are labeled as organic or all-natural can be high in calories. Check the labels so you make an informed decision on whether those calories are worth it or not.
